The New York Knicks are gearing up for their preseason game on Thursday against the Washington Wizards and one player that is excited about the matchup is star Carmelo Anthony, as the game will be played at Baltimore Arena in the city where he grew up.
Anthony was born in New York in Brooklyn, but he grew up in the Baltimore area while playing for Towson Catholic High School and he said to ESPN New York that he was excited to be back in the city. Anthony said that the game being played in Baltimore is a blessing for him and that he is "excited" to play in front of fans from his hometown.
Anthony made some news this week about free agency next year, saying that he would like to be a free agent, although that doesn't mean he will be leaving New York. Anthony can get the most money if he stays with the Knicks and while he wants to test free agency, he still could stay in NY. Teams that likely will chase him are the Lakers, Bulls and Miami Heat and while he said that he was excited to be a free agent, he didn't say it in the same way someone does when they are looking to leave.
As a professional, Anthony has never been a free agent, first being drafted by Denver before the Nuggets traded him to the Knicks. With two years left on his deal now, he can opt out this summer and many are expecting him to do just that. The star said that he wants that experience and the Knicks have the advantage of signing him, as they can pay him $30 million more than anyone else. The Knicks feel that they can make a championship run this season and that would help the team to keep Anthony.
