The NFL trading deadline is getting closer and while it is not usually as active as in other sports, there are a number of players that could move this year, including rumored deals involving names like Hakeem Nicks, Tony Gonzalez as well as Maurice Jones-Drew and Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd.
The good people over at SI.com put together some ideas for possible trades, not reported ones, but ones they suggested and a couple of them are very interesting, including Jones-Drew to the Miami Dolphins and also Jairus Byrd being moved to the Green Bay Packers. The deal on SI.com for Byrd would be to the Packers since they feel the team could use an upgrade after injuries and losing Charles Woodson and they speculate that it would take a second round pick in the deal. Other teams that possibly could go after Byrd includes the NY giants and the New England Patriots.
Byrd has been mentioned in trade rumors since the summer when the Bills were dealing with him on a contract situation and now that he is on a one-year $6.916 million deal with the franchise tag, he could be a candidate to get traded. This season Byrd has played in one game and has four tackles and he is coming off a great season in which he had five picks and 76 tackles.
Byrd has been a healthy player through his career, missing just two games before this season and he has 18 interceptions, making him a playmaker at the position and over the past three seasons he has had over 75 combined tackles each year. The Bills previously said they weren't looking to trade Byrd, but according to ESPN.com, with the deadline approaching, sources said that the team would be open to listening to deals for the safety.
A number of players have already been moved this season, including Trent Richardson, Eugene Monroe and Levi Brown and now Byrd could be the next one to go. Byrd did not play in the game last Thursday against the Browns and since being a second round pick from Oregon, he has been by far the best defensive player for the Bills.
