The Boston Red Sox face the Detroit Tigers in Game 6 of the ALCS Saturday evening. Check out the schedule with TV info as the Red Sox and Tigers hook up in a game that has playoff implications written all over.
Game Time: 8 p.m. ET
TV Channel: FOX
The Red Sox are one win away from advancing to the 2013 World Series where they would meet the N.L. Champion St. Louis Cardinals. However, the Red Sox meet Max Scherzer, who owned them in Game 2. After the Red Sox struggled against Anibal Sanchez in Game 1, Scherzer stepped up and struck out 13, leaving the game in the seventh inning with the 5-1 lead his bullpen could not hold for the victory.
The Tigers are desperate. They might just leave Scherzer in to complete his own outing if Detroit is winning late. The Tigers do not have another game to fall back on. It's win or go home for them in Game 6 as they trail the series 2-3.
Scherzer has been consistent in all of his appearances this year. Clay Buchholz will have to pitch like he did during the regular season and not like he did in Game 2 of the series. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits as the Tigers tagged him up for two home runs. Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila took Buchholz deep in this one. It was the second time Buchholz took the mound in the playoffs and the second time the Red Sox lost a game.
Eventually, the Red Sox managed to come back from Game 2, but if they fall behind today, chances are they will not be making a comeback. David Ortiz's Game 2 heroics saved the series for the Red Sox as they tied the series 1-1. However, they should work on getting the lead early in order to give Buchholz some working room.
The Red Sox will try to make their first World Series appearance since 2007 when they won it all against the Colorado Rockies. The Tigers are trying to defend their A.L. Champion crown, but they will need Scherzer to step up and keep the Tigers alive. Justin Verlander would take the mound in Game 7 if it goes that far.
