Kevin Durant is not a Dwyane Wade fan. The Oklahoma City Thunder are often times paired against the Miami Heat, creating some memorable matchups. The Heat beat the Thunder back in 2012 for the NBA championship. Players are aware that right now, the NBA goes through Miami. Durant is ready for his time on top and he believes Wade needs to move on.
Durant is ready to be the best shooting guard in the league. In Wade's prime, he was that player, but Durant is telling the veteran to pass the torch. In an interview with Eurohoops.net, Durant reiterated the fact that he believes Wade is no longer the best shooting guard in the league, whether he believes it or not.
"It's nothing against D-Wade. He's a great player; he's set his mark in the league as one of the best shooting guards ever. But like I said, I just thought as an older guy, it's just time to pass the torch down to the younger guys-just like somebody did to him; just like somebody did to me. I'm going to have to do it to somebody later on. I just thought it was his time," Durant said.
Durant is referring to his little feud with Wade that has been brewing over the offseason. Durant started things off when he was asked about Sports Illustrated's Top 10 plays list. Durant said he would take Wade off the list and replace him with Houston Rockets star, James Harden. Wade, of course, was not about to take the criticism quietly. The Miami star posted a hand-written note on Instagram saying, "9-24-13 Kevin Durant said James Harden should replace me in the Top 10...Not to self: Make him respect your place in history...again." Subtle, but aggressive.
Then, Durant decided to respond back on Twitter saying, "Show me don't tweet me." In defense of Wade, he technically posted the response on Instagram and not Twitter. Durant needs help telling the difference between his social media platforms. The war of words between the two top players will certainly add to the fun of the Miami-Oklahoma matchups that are sure to come in the 2013 season.
Wade has struggled in recent years, mainly due to injuries while Durant is one of the fastest rising stars, looking better each season. However, the Heat have two championships in recent memory while Durant has nothing yet.
