The New York Knicks are in the final stages of negotiating a contract to keep Mike Woodson with the Knicks.
According to ESPNNewYork, sources close to the deal said the final touches are being made to the contract and the deal could be announced as soon as week's end.
"They are just waiting on paperwork," the source said.
"The job is his. It's just a matter of time," a second source close to the negotiations told ESPN.
A team source also confirmed the two sides are working on a multi-year deal.
If the deal goes through, Woodson will become full-time coach after leaving the Atlanta Hawks in 2010. Woodson, who took over as interim coach replacing Mike D'Antoni in March, led the Knicks to a 16-8 record and took them to the playoffs as the seventh seed. The Knicks lost to the Heat in the first round, but in that series Woodson gave the Knicks their first playoff win in 13 postseason games.
Woodson has received support from Knick superstars Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin. Anthony,in particular, is hoping that the Knicks keep the 54-year old. "I'm hopeful he's back. There's no need to change it up now. I'm a big believer in sticking with what you have," Anthony had said earlier this month.
The announcement of the contract has been delayed because Woodson had to let go of his agent Joe Glass on the request of Knicks owner James Dolan. Glass and Dolan have been reportedly feuding ever since a dispute arose over former Knicks coach Larry Brown's contract.
