The 1-5 Pacers are struggling, but two of these loses have been against the dynamic Chicago Bulls who are playing incredibly. Oh wait, it's only the preseason. Even the New Orleans Pelicans are playing great basketball, something unexpected even through exhibition.
The Pacers are coming off their first victory where they handed a young and talented Cleveland Cavaliers squad a 102-79 whooping. Prior to that performance, the Pacers had lost twice to the Bulls, twice to the Houston Rocket and last week, they dropped their meeting against the Dallas Mavericks. There should be nothing to worry about since the Pacers possess a talent bunch. They signed Chris Copeland to come off their bench and Luis Scola should make up for the tenacity lost as Tyler Hansbrough went to Toronto. Their starting five is as talented as any in the league as George Hill, David West, Paul George, Danny Granger and Roy Hibbert will make noise throughout the 2013-2014 season.
As for the Hawks, it seems as though they have one familiar face remaining in the team. Al Horford is the only Hawk still around as Joe Johnson and Joe Smith have moved on. Elton Brand, Kyle Korver, Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap and Elton Brand are the only guys people might recognize on their roster. The Hawks were good enough last season to make the playoffs, finishing in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. However, Atlanta fans might be disappointed in 2013 as other teams like the Detroit Pistons and even the Toronto Raptors have improved over the offseason.
Like the Pacers, the Hawks also have only one win in the 2013 NBA Preseason. They suffered their first loss against the NBA Champion Miami Heat. They followed this game with a miracle 87-85 win over the Charlotte Bobcats, then lost three straight to the Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies. The Hawks might have enough talent to compete in the East, but as always, they will fall short at some point if they even make the playoffs.
The Pacers will look to put the finishing touches on their defense and offensive efforts, while the Hawks will also get as ready as they can for the start of the season.
