NFL Rumors: Fred Davis Denies Washington Redskins Trade After Jordan Reed Becomes Top Tight Target for Robert Griffin III, Deal Possible Before Deadline

As Jordan Reed's stock continues to go up, Fred Davis continues to fall out of favor with the Washington Redskins. The veteran tight end has been cold most of the season after returning for an Achilles injury that left him on the sidelines in 2012. Mike Shanahan claims that Davis is still recovering, but could it be that the Redskins are shopping the tight end? Davis denies the rumors.

Washington might be thinking trade, but Davis is not. After it was reported that the Redskins were actively trying to move Davis before the trade deadline, the tight end says that if it was happening, it is not because of something he requested.

"I didn't request anything," Davis said, via 106.7 The Fan in D.C. "I mean, I thought everything was going the right way. I thought everything was pretty good preseason and heading into the season, and other than that, I guess they just feel they had a better option in Jordan [Reed] and Logan [Paulsen] playing, and I wish I could help the team any way I could.  I know for sure I know I can whenever I get an opportunity, but it just hasn't been the case these few games I haven't been playing."

While Davis might be thinking things are fine, the rookie Reed is proving ready to be a full-time starter. In the team's win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Reed put up 134 yards on nine catches for one touchdown. Quarterback Robert Griffin III was 9 for 9 when targeting Reed in Week 7. Meanwhile, Davis has 25 total yards on the season.

Davis was very coy about what he thinks his future with Redskins looks like. He prefers to play over getting traded or released. However, the ball has not been thrown his way since Week 2 and he is starting to see the writing on the wall.

"I mean, at the end of the day, man, to be honest with you, I don't really prefer that, I just want to be able to play," Davis said.  "That's what I prefer.  I prefer to be playing.  Like LaVar [Arrington] said, there's plays out there that I know that I can make, too, so I feel like with assets like that, I feel I want to help my team out in any kind of way.  I don't want to be released and I don't want to be cut.  I don't want any of that.  But like I said, right now I'm a Redskin, I'm playing, but if I don't get a chance to, and they feel there's a better opportunity for me somewhere else to play, and a team that needs me or something, needs my ability and I go out there and make plays, then that's what I need to do."
