Cleveland Browns Rumors: Jason Campbell Named Starter After Jeff Garcia Requests Tryout, Rob Chudzinski Downplays Brandon Weeden Struggles as Change Made

Rob Chudzinski was thinking about it. Earlier in the week the Cleveland Browns head coach noted that a possible change at quarterback was a possibility. After Brandon Weeden stepped back in for the injured Brian Hoyer, the Browns continued their losing ways after a nice win streak. The second-year quarterback failed to make a difference and now another change has some.

According to ESPNCleveland.com, the Browns have announced that backup Jason Campbell would start in place of the struggling Weeden. At this moment, Weeden has been outscored 55-13, ranking 32nd in the league in completion percentage, 31sti n yards per attempt and 30th in passer rating. Chudzinski said that based on production, it was time for a move.

"It really is about production and ultimately being consistent in that area," Chudzinski said. "I think looking at Jason, the things he brings to the table [are] his leadership, his experience. He's been productive and successful in the league. Look at his arm strength, his mobility and those things, [then] tie in from a game-plan standpoint for what we need in this game."

Campbell has seen limited time as a starter in the league. In 2011 he had six starts with the Oakland Raiders, earning them four wins. However, an injury knocked him out, ending his career in Oakland. Since then he has mainly see time as a backup. Chudzinski vowed to re-evaluate the position each week. He intends on putting the best player on the field to try and get the team a win. Could that include signing someone from the outside?

Former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia certainly hopes that is the case. The quarterback told a Cleveland radio station that he would love it if the Browns gave him a tryout, claiming the fire still burns to play in the league.

"I actually reached out to the Browns and said, 'Hey, if you need a guy to come in, work me out, take a look,'" Garcia said. "I don't know if people want me back in Cleveland, but I'm open to the opportunity."

Garcia had a stint with the Browns back in 2004 where he won the team just three games out of 10 starts. At 43, the last time the quarterback saw action in the NFL was 2008. He spent one season with the UFL Ohaha Nighthawks in 2010. He mentored JaMarcus Russell to a potential NFL comeback this past offseason. That has yet to work out either.

The Browns appear content with sticking with Campbell at the moment. Weeden will move into the backup role. Garcia needs to just give it up.
