Shaquille O'Neal is interested in taking over the General Manager's position with the Orlando Magic.

According to ESPN, the former center, who made his name at the Magic, might meet with Orlando's representatives next week to discuss the possibility. The Magic are believed to be keen on O'Neal, as they feel Shaq can convince Dwight Howard to stay with Orlando.

O'Neal played for the Magic from 1992-96, leading them to the NBA Finals in 1995. Howard is believed to have a good relationship with the former Lakers center, who lives in Orlando.

The Magic fired head coach Stan Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith on Monday and are desperate to find someone who can convince Howard to stay in Orlando.

Shaq isn't the only big name attracting the Magic organization. Former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has expressed his interest in taking up the vacant coach's position.

Asked about his interest in Orlando, Sloan admitted to the Salt Lake Tribune he is keen on the opportunity. "I'm sure a lot of people are interested. But I really don't know what the parameters are going to be or what's going on. They have a lot of things to consider. I guess, we'll wait and see what happens."

The Charlotte Bobcats are also looking at Sloan, with the former Jazz coach even talking to Bobcats owner Michael Jordan. Sloan said he wasn't worried about the Bobcats' status in the NBA. "Obviously, you probably wouldn't win a title right off the bat," Sloan told the Tribune.

"But sometimes it's not all about starting out on top. If there's some interest in me, fine. If there's not, I understand that too."
