The Aaron Hernandez case has touched the NFL in a number of ways and now another player in the league has become involved, as Miami Dolphins lineman Mike Pouncey was served after the game against the Patriots on Sunday by Massachusetts State Police with a grand jury subpoena.
According to SI.com, the police served Pouncey in the locker room at Gillette Stadium following the game against the Patriots and now the star will have to testify before the grand jury in the Aaron Hernandez case. The report from Sports Illustrated says that it may have to do with a possible intrastate gun trafficking ring and the grand jury investigation into Hernandez. The former Patriots star previously played with Pouncey at Florida and the two were friendly with each other.
The 24-year-old was not charged with any crime and the report says that it was overheard by team officials that he was served papers in the case. Pouncey likely will get asked questions about Hernandez and his involvement in crimes and he also could be asked as a potential witness in the case depending on what the summons is about. The report says that police are looking into a ring dealing with guns from Massachusetts to New York to Florida and now the Dolphins are a bit worried about Pouncey's involvement.
Hernandez was arrested for murder, but this has to do with guns and he was also hit with five gun charges in the case, including ones with high caliber bullets. Pouncey now is involved and the two played together in Florida and that the brothers helped keep Hernandez from the wrong crowd down south, but clearly something is off.
Mike and his brother Maurkice were seen wearing "Free Hernandez" hats earlier this year that got them into hot water and now this is another issue. Robert Kraft had no idea the papers were going to be served and according to the article, "there were five uniformed Massachusetts State Police officers and two in suits loitering about 30 yards from the Dolphins locker room and speaking with NFL Security officials."
