After speculations on Shaquille O'neal being interviewed for the vacant general manager position in Orlando, within 24 hours of the ESPN's Chris Broussard report, Shaq said he was not interested in the position anymore.
"When I first heard about the vacancy for the Orlando Magic general manager position, I was clearly intrigued. However, this is not a job I have an interest in pursuing," Shaq said yesterday in a statement.
Shaq, who was drafted by the Magic in 1992, considered Orlando home for the first four years of his NBA career. He knows the city and the fans know him. Not that he was the perfect fit for the position, having no previous GM experience, but it made sense.
The Magic find themselves searching for a new GM after firing Otis Smith on Monday. They are also looking for a new head coach.
O'neal is an analyst on Inside the NBA and he seems to be enjoying his job. "I feel very fortunate to be with TNT and to have the best job in sports. I look forward to many more years with Charles, Kenny and E.J."
Definitely sounds like Shaq is having too much fun and will not be going anywhere in the near future.
