Which hero will resurface and make a name for himself in this World Series? There are plenty of options on both sides.
Matt Holliday: The only Cardinal player to truly seem locked in and provide power. Both of his home runs have been solo shots. The last one came off Jon Lester and it was the first ever earned run allowed by the Red Sox's lefty in the World Series. The Cardinals will have to get runners in front of Holliday in order to get a huge contribution from the left fielder who has the stroke to put the Cardinals up big or bring them back from a deficit.
Carlos Beltran: He has won games and provided big hits throughout the postseason for the Cardinals. He is also chasing after his first ever World Series ring. If there is anybody who does not want to see the Cardinals lose tonight, it is Beltran. Will he step up and provide some offense for the Cardinals?
Michael Wacha: The more likely candidate to be tonight's hero, Wacha will take the ball for the Cardinals. He has been unhittable and the only way the Red Sox could get a run off the young righty was via the long ball. Cardinals' Nation is probably relaxed as they are living by these numbers: 4-0, 1.00 ERA
David Ortiz: His batting average could might as well be his OPS, but that is not the case. Hitting .733, Ortiz has been unstoppable. He has proven he can hit anything, yet the Cardinals still pitch to the man. That is the definition of insanity.
John Lackey: He takes the ball for the Red Sox. He went toe-to-toe with Wacha in Game 1 and if the Cardinals fans are at peace with Wacha's numbers, then Red Sox fans are happy to know that Lackey was also unhittable, though he was charged with three earned runs in his Game 2 start. Just to prove he was solid, Lackey appeared in relief and completely shut the Cardinals down.
Jonny Gomes/Mike Napoli: Because we are back in Boston, chances are both of these guys will be back in the lineup. Gomes won Game 4 for the Red Sox, which allowed them to tie the series. He has not done much all series long, but Gomes proved that all he needs is one good swing. Napoli's experience with the Texas Rangers will prove key tonight. Will he be the one to rally the troops if the Red Sox go onto the ninth with a lead or if they are trailing? Napoli was a strike away from beating the Cardinals in 2011, but we know how that turned out. Can he provide some clutch or some advice tonight?
The Cardinals and Red Sox hit it off at around 8 p.m. ET in Game 6 of the World Series. The Red Sox were down 1-2 in the series before rallying, winning both Games 4 and 5 in St. Louis, ensuring the series returned to Boston. Now, more importantly for them, they have a chance to lock things up and hoist their eighth championship trophy.
