World Series Results: Red Sox Win Game 6 After Whacking Wacha

Oct 30, 2013 11:26 PM EDT

The Boston Red Sox are the 2013 World Series champions after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6. They won the series 4-2 and Game 6 was no different than any of their other games. They won with great defense, clutch hitting and dominant pitching.

Shane Victorino provided the Hawaiian Punch, John Lackey provided his arm and the Red Sox as a team provided the great defense to keep the Cardinals at bay. It was the third time in the series that the Red Sox's pitching had held the Cardinals to only one run and it is not coincidence that they won all three of these games.

Though the Cardinals came in with the higher batting average, it was the Red Sox scoring runs all throughout the series. The Red Sox looked like the same team that won Game 1 by the score of 8-1. The Red Sox disrespected Michael Wacha adding him to the list of great pitchers they defeated in the 2013 postseason.

As pointed out by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver during the game, the Red Sox defeated David Price & Matt Moore in the A.L. Division Series. Then they took care of Max Scherzer twice and Justin Verlander in the A.L. Championship Series. Finally, in the Fall Classic, the Red Sox handled Adam Wainwright soundly, beating him twice and then closing out the series against the rookie Wacha and beating him in Game 6.

Wacha only lasted 3.2 innings in this game. He also allowed six earned runs, doubling the total he had surrendered in the entire 2013 postseason.

Victorino finished the game 2-3 with four RBI and a walk. Stephen Drew also went 2-4 with a home run and a run batted in, while Jacoby Ellsbury woke up, scoring two runs after reaching the base three times in the night.

Lackey made an appearance in Game 4, but he was locked and loaded in Game 6. He went 6.2 innings, allowed a run on nine hits, one walk and five strikeouts. For the second time in his career, he won a championship and was responsible for leading his team to victory. Back in his rookie year, as a part of the Los Angeles Angels, Lackey won the 2002 World Series on the mound and of course, he did not want to leave the mound in that game either.

The Red Sox bring the eighth championship to Boston and they have captured their third crown in the last 10 years. It is time to celebrate in Boston as the parade is now the next thing the Red Sox have to look forward to.
