New York Knicks: J.R. Smith Arrested

May 25, 2012 01:47 PM EDT

New York Knicks' guard J.R. Smith was arrested in South Beach last night. Smith was pulled over at a traffic stop when Seargent Bobby Hernandez noticed there was a warrant out for the 26 year-old basketball player.

This occurred at around 8:30 PM last night. Smith was immediately arrested and taken to Miami-Dade County Jail. Smith had failed to pay a summons for driving without a valid driver's license. He was released early Friday morning.

For Smith, this is not his first driving incident and not his first time being arrested.

Back in 2007, Smith spent 23 days in jail after pleading guilty to reckless driving charges. He was driving in a vehicle when he crashed and killed his close friend, Andre Bell.

Prior to this 2007 incident, Smith's license had been suspended five times in less than a year. Maybe it is time for him to hire a personal driver?

J.R. Smith played with the Knicks this season, averaging 12.5 points a game off the bench. He had played in China before the Knicks signed him to a deal. It is uncertain whether Smith will play for the Knicks in 2013.
