Baltimore Orioles: Orioles Break Record

May 26, 2012 11:47 AM EDT

The Orioles are playing great baseball and their fans had a sudden urge to see their team play. After 5 PM yesterday, the Orioles sold 11,000 tickets, making it the largest walk-up crowd in the history of Camden Yards.

The crowd was announced at just under 29,000. Even though the O's are playing great baseball, they were facing the Kansas City Royals. Anything above 20,000 would have been a plus.

Granted that the Royals have some of the freshest talent in the league, the fans came out to support their club.

Maybe the fans heard Cleveland Indians' Chris Perez lash out against his own fans for not coming out to support a first place club and did not want their team to feel the same anguish, so they came to support.

The Orioles have entered the season red hot. They are in first place in their division, with a one game lead over last year's AL Wild Card, Tampa Bay Rays, and 12 games over .500.

To thank their fans, the O's pummeled the Royals 8-2.
