This will enventually become a problem for the rest of the league. Many expected to see the Thunder vs. the Miami Heat in another NBA Finals 2012 rematch. The Thunder had a talented roster, but when Westbrook missed the playoffs with an ACL injury, Oklahoma City was not the same. They barely beat the Houston Rockets and then the Memphis Grizzlies eliminated them from the playoffs .
Now, however, Westbrook is back. It is a return that is sooner than expected, but it is very welcome as Kevin Durant will once again have his running mate in the lineup. Many talked about Westbrook's lack of patience and his inability to be a true point guard, but his absence from the Thunder's everyday lineup created a gap nobody could cover. It's not that Reggie Jackson could not play well, it was that everybody finally realized Westbrook's value to the team.
The Thunder are off to a 1-1 start in 2013. They face a Suns team that is 2-0 in the season. Phoenix is fresh off a victory against the Utah Jazz where they were pushed to the brink, but wound up winning a very close game, 87-84. It was the newly acquired, Eric Bledsoe, who won the game for the Suns.He hit a three to give them the late lead and then the defense held it down the rest of the way.
For the Thunder, it was a tough loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. OKC lost 81-100 as the T'Wolves were relentless in all facets of the game; they outrebounded the Thunder, shared the ball better than the Thunder and played defense better than the Thunder. It was Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love with double-doubles, while Durant finished with only 13 points after a -11 shooting night from the floor.
