Buccaneers Rumors: Darrelle Revis Prefers Money Over New York Jets, Rex Ryan, Tampa Bay Cornerback Not Concerned with Winless Start as Contract Focus in 2013

Darrelle Revis made one of the biggest moves during the 2013 offseason. The cornerback was traded in a draft-day move from the New York Jets to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He opted to turn down a long-term future with the Jets for more money with the Buccaneers. However, so far this year Revis does not have any wins to go along with those extra zeros in his paycheck. According to Twitter, he is perfectly ok with that.

Revis signed a six-year deal worth $98 million to play for the Buccaneers. That is $16 million per season, to remain winless. A self-proclaimed Jets fan, Jake Owen, tweet out on the matter saying, "Back in the good old days when @Revis24 played for a team that mattered. Wonder if 12MM per and Rex as coach has any merit vs. Schiano & 16MM." Revis promptly responded, "naw 16 is better." So much for that "It's not about the money" saying athletes love to throw out.

Revis is clearly not losing sleep over the winless start to the season Tampa Bay is having. No does he appear worried over the fact that he is slowly losing his spot as the league's best cornerback as Tampa Bay's schemes are not working in his favor. Apparently, a $4 million pay increase was all it took to get Revis smiling.

The cornerback loves to toss things around on Twitter. He recently got into an exchange with Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman about who was the best in the league. Both cornerbacks stressed they were on top, but Sunday's game proved that Sherman got the better of Revis as Seattle topped Tampa Bay in overtime. Both players toned down the trash talking and exchanged pleasantries on the field.

Revis will likely help dictate how much Sherman can earn in a contract extension. Both cornerbacks rank at the top of the league. Revis earned the $16 million per season and Sherman will be able to command that much or more depending on the remainder of the season.

As far as Revis' comments on Tampa Bay go, the Jets are currently 5-4 and sitting at No. 6 in the AFC. They have a real shot at earning a postseason berth this year despite having a rookie quarterback. Tampa Bay is looking more and more like the team who will be drafting the No. 1 overall player come April while opposing teams scrub down their vistor's locker rooms extra hard.
