Oakland Raiders Rumors: Darren McFadden Injury Concern As Nnamdi Asomugha NFL Free Agent Option After San Francisco 49ers Release?

The Oakland Raiders have having another middle of the road season and after winning just four games in 2012 they are on the cusp of matching that, but an injury to Darren McFadden could derail things as could the terrible pass defense, which is one reason why Reggie McKenzie could sign back former cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

McFadden was injured this week against the Philadelphia Eagles and now his status is once again in question, something he has dealt with throughout his career, while the Raiders were just dismantled by Nick Foles, possibly making head coach Dennis Allen and McKenzie ready for a slight shakeup. The team spent some money in the offseason on cornerbacks with Mike Jenkins and Tracy Porter and they also added Charles Woodson to the secondary, but with the team ranked 25th in the league in passing yards allowed per game, could Asomugha make a return to Oakland after his release from the other Bay Area team in the San Francisco 49ers?

According to ESPN.com, Asomugha was released to make room for cornerback Eric Wright as well as wide receiver Mario Manningham and now he will pass through waivers and if no one claims him, he will be a free agent and Asomugha could sign with the Raiders. The 49ers had no choice but to make room for those players and after the way Asomugha played, solid not great, it wasn't a tough decision, as the team has Carlos Rogers and Tarrell Brown already on the team.

The Raiders could make the addition for not all that much money, as Asomugha was on a one-year deal with the 49ers and now the team will work Manningham back in the rotation as they also wait time for Michael Crabtree to get back. Wright previously was added in the offseason after a trade fell through and now he adds another name to the stable for the 49ers in the secondary and now Asomugha will look for his next stop. Wright failed his physical and that ended the trade, but after being released, the 49ers signed him from the Buccaneers.

Asomugha was once considered the best corner in the NFL or at least arguably the best and now he is looking for his third team since signing with the Eagles. The 49ers had him on a $1.35-million contract and with rookie DJ Hayden struggling a bit, Asomugha could be a low risk option for the team moving forward this season.

Darren McFadden will be watched closely by the team and fantasy owners moving forward, as he suffered a hamstring injury and now Rashad Jennings will likely take over the workload until he can return. McFadden has been injury prone for his entire career and with Terrelle Pryor also day to day, the raiders could have a new look on offense heading into the game against the New York Giants.
