The New York Knicks are not off to the start they hoped for when the season began and now the team is 1-3 and dealing with an injury to Tyson Chandler, who suffered a knee injury and now will be out for over a month and that could put Mike Woodson on the hot seat.
Chandler was injured in Tuesday night's game against the Bobcats early in the game and while the Knicks initially hoped it was a sprain, the injury ended up being more serious. According to ESPN.com, Chandler will be out for at least four weeks with a small non-displaced fracture in his right fibula and now he will be out for the lineup for the immediate future, which is a big hit to the Knicks. This season Chandler was averaging over seven points and nine rebounds with 2.5 blocks per game and his absence will make things tougher for Carmelo Anthony.
Chandler is a defensive force for the Knicks and he is a previous defensive player of the year winner and now he will sit out, although he did not suffer any ligament damage in the injury. Chandler banged his leg on a play against the Bobcats after colliding with Kemba Walker and he left the game and did not return. The team is currently slumping with three straight losses since opening with a win over the Bucks and while they are ranked third in the league I points allowed per game, it's a bit misleading as they are giving up way too many points in the first half and they did that again with the Bobcats allowing over 60 and that will need to change to get things back on track.
The team lost 102-97 after a comeback and while Anthony led the way in scoring and assists, he only had two dimes and that is not a good number as the leader on the team. The Knicks are ranked in the bottom of the league in points per game as well as rebounds and assist per contest and James Dolan is liable to do something drastic if things don't change soon. The team is expected to win a championship by their owner and if things keep going this way, Mike Woodson could get the boot or at least the heat on his seat could tick up.
The team has given up 100 points in each of the last two games and they have lost those games against non-playoff teams after beating the Bucks and losing to the Bulls. The schedule doesn't get any easier after a road game against the Bobcats, as they will play against the San Antonio Spurs and then the Atlanta Hawks twice as well as the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers.
