Jay Cutler is being coy on whether or not he will play in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. The Chicago Bears quarterback injured his groin against the Washington Redskins. He had originally predicted he would be back this coming week but with backup Josh McCown playing well, the team is considering resting Cutler for one more week. One player hoping Cutler is back on the field come Sunday, Ndamukong Suh.
The Lions defensive end says he is certainly rooting for Cutler to be on the field so he can player against someone he considers to be a top quarterback in the league.
"I love playing against Cutler," Suh said, via ESPN.com. "He's a tough guy. No discredit to [Josh] McCown, but I want the best shot. Whichever quarterback is healthier and the healthiest to go and is going to give them their best opportunity, that's who I want to go against. I want to beat the best no matter what. Every single week."
Suh actually expressed remorse for the recent injuries hitting quarterbacks in the league lately. The controversial player loves facing the top players in the league and after the injury to Aaron Rodgers, he might not see an elite quarterback for a few weeks.
"I do [feel bad]," Suh said. "I like going against Aaron Rodgers and like going against Cutler. I wish them the best, speedy recoveries so I can come back and go against them and take them down."
The Bears do not sound like they feel any sense of urgency to get Cutler back this week, knowing that it is more important to have him healthy for the final stretch of the regular season. The starter noted that he had full trust in McCown and believes the team will do fine without him. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall certainly believes the team needs Cutler as soon as possible, but understands if he needs an extra week.
"You can't replace a guy like Jay Cutler, man," Marshall said. "Who he is and what he does for our team, getting guys lined up, he's probably one of the smartest guys in the NFL. So it's hard to replace that. Josh definitely did a great job making some big plays with his feet, also breaking tackles and in the pocket. He controlled the huddle. But there's some things that you can't coach. Jay Cutler has all that stuff. The big-play ability, just to make something out of nothing, he does that consistently, so we need Jay back. We need him back as fast as he can get back to playing."
Head coach Marc Trestman noted that a decision on Cutler could be made Thursday after the team walk through. Trainers will evaluate the starter and depending on his overall health, Cutler could make his return.
