Johnny Manziel is read hot and after Oregon lost to Stanford, the quarterback looks poised to make another strong late-season run for the Heisman trophy. The Texas A&M quarterback put up big numbers against Mississippi State last season and will look to repeat the success Saturday afternoon.
Texas A&M is looking for their 10th straight home win as the team sits at No. 11 in the standings. It was this time last year that Manziel made his Heisman run. During a six-game win streak, he put up a 73.4 completion percentage, averaging 291.7 yards per game while throwing 12 touchdowns during that time. He started this November off well this year too, throwing for 273 yards and four touchdowns against UTEP.
In the last three games, Manziel has been dangerous. He is throwing an average of 344 yards per game, while throwing 12 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He ranks as the No. 1 quarterback in the nation at the moment and as Marcus Marriota sees his stock drop, Manziel continues to rise.
Mississippi State's last four games have not been as strong, but the team is putting up some signs of progress. The Bulldogs rank fourth in the SEC in pass defense, allowing opponents to average just 204.4 yards per game which could challenge A&M a bit. But, they have given up 175.8 yards in rushing per game.
Dan Prescott will be looking for a bounce-back performance against the Aggies. Against South Carolina, the quarterback tossed a career-high three interceptions, while completing just 28 of 43 passes. The Texas A&M defense is much improved than where they were at the beginning of the season. The unit has created seven turnovers in two games and will look to keep the pressure up.
