It started with the Top 8 players of they year. Nadal, as the No. 1 ranked player, was in Group A, while Djokovic headed Group B. Nadal had an easier time getting through the round robin stage of the tournament, while Djokovic had to really play through.

After going 3-0 in the first stage of the ATP World Tour Finals, Nadal defeated Roger Federer in the semifinals, while Djokovic easily got past Stanislas Wawrinka.
Nadal only needed two sets to get past Federer. He won that match 7-5, 6-3, only getting stronger the deeper he went into the match. Djokovic won his easiest match of the tournament, quickly dispatching Wawrinka in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. It was the first time Djokovic defeated an opponent in just two sets.
Nadal owns the Djokovic head-to-head battle.
These two players have met numerous times before and it should be one of the better matches of the year. Nadal defeated Djokovic in the 2013 U.S. Open, winning a pivotal matchup that placed Nadal back on the map and convinced everybody he was ready to become the sports' top player once again. It was a tough road to recovery, but a statement was made at the 2013 French Open, when Nadal capture a record-setting eighth title at Roland Garros.
Djokovic is facing a tough opponent, but he is ready to defend his title and prevent Nadal from capturing his first Men's tennis championship title.
