Brandon Marshall loves putting himself in the headlines. A few days after the Detroit Lions topped the Chicago Bears in a heated rivalry matchup, the wide receiver is vowing revenge. Not only is saying the two teams will matchup in the playoffs, but Marshall went as far as to call the Lions the "little brother" of Chicago. Detroit teammates are not buying into the trash talking.
"It's the little brother that, big brother wants to go out and play with his friends and the little brother is annoying, [saying], 'Hey, can I go?'" Marshall said Monday on ESPN 1000 in Chicago. "No, you can't go, Detroit Lions. Sit back. Sit in your little city. Fix your financial problems and all of that, you know. You can't come with us right now."
To be fair, that was a very low blow from Marshall. A few of the Lions players have since spoken out over the comments saying the wide receiver took things too far and there was no reason to attack the city. Safety Glover Quin called the criticism of Detroit "uncalled for." One person not shocked by the comments made by Marshall is running back Reggie Bush. The veteran noted that he and the wide receiver are good friends and nothing surprises him at this point.
"Well, B Marshall is a good friend of mine," Bush said, via ESPN.com. "I'm not surprised at all that he said that. You know what's funny is that I have a little brother and growing up, I was always like the older brother, pushing him around a little bit, and now he's 6-foot-7. There's no more pushing him around anymore. He can hang with me. At some point in time, the little brother always grows up and ends up being the bigger brother."
Marshall noted that the Lions got the best of the Bears this time around. The team completed a sweep of Chicago in the regular season, but the wide receiver is confident that in the postseason, it is his team that comes out on top.
"But right now, they've got the best of us. They beat us twice. They swept us. But what matters is when we see them in the playoffs. It'll be a great show. It's gonna be tough. But I guarantee it's not gonna go down like it did the first two games," said Marshall.
Marshall's heated words for Detroit could stem from his opinions on the Lions defensive style. The wide receiver believes the Lions have one of the dirtiest defensive lines in the league that go out of their way to hit and hurt quarterbacks. That may or may not be true, but the Lions defense did knock out quarterback Jay Cutler from the game and possibly the near future. Both teams are likely headed for the postseason and these latest comments could make for another interesting matchup.
