Man United close to signing Kagawa, keen on Cisse

Manchester United are closing in on Shinji Kagawa after an improved bid was reportedly accepted by Borussia Dortmund.

United are also being linked with Premier League stars Luka Modric and Papiss Demba Cisse.

Only personal terms remain to be agreed with the Japanese midfielder, according to several reports in Germany. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was quoted in German papers saying "both sides want to conclude the deal."

Kagawa has been under Sir Alex Ferguson's radar for a long time and after losing out on Hazard, Ferguson will be relieved to capture the playmaker.

United were rebuffed after an initial offer of $20 million. However, despite the player having just one year remaining in his contract, United have increased the offer to $25 million, knowing the massive commercial potential in Asia for the midfielder.

United are also looking to strengthen their striking department with the signing of Cisse. According to the Daily Mirror, both Manchester clubs are keeping an eye on the Senegal striker, who made an immediate impact, scoring 13 goals in 14 games, after signing for Newcastle United in January for $15 million.

Dimitar Berbatov is expected to leave United this summer and with the underwhelming form of Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, the Red Devils will be keen to find the perfect striker to partner Wayne Rooney next season.

Manchester City are also keen to boost their striking department with Edin Dzeko expected to leave and Carlos Tevez's future still unclear.

Dzeko has been linked by German papers with a move to Champions League finalists Bayern Munich, with some reports suggesting personal terms have already been agreed. However, City will want to get as much money as possible from Bayern for the striker who cost over $45 million from Wolfsburg.

Another player interesting City manager Roberto Mancini is Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder, according to Gazetta Dello Sport. Sneijder was heavily linked with United last summer, but a move failed to materialise. Mancini sees the Dutch midfielder as a perfect replacement for Hazard, who snubbed City to join Chelsea. However, Inter are sure to ask the Premier League Champions for a hefty sum.

United will look to bolster their midfield further with a bid for the unsettled Luka Modric, the Daily Mail reports. Modric was another player United were interested in last season, but will face stiff competition from Chelsea. Chelsea almost signed the Croatian international last summer, but Tottenham refused to sell their playmaker.

Leighton Baines, heavily linked with a move to the red-half of Manchester, has said he is flattered by United's interest, but is concentrating on Euro 2012. "The United link is flattering," the Everton leftback said. There is no harm in people talking about it because it is a great club. But I'm at a great club as well, a club that I love.

"The focus now is all on the tournament (Euro 2012). There's not much time to let other things seep in."
