Today is the day the worst teams in basketball have been waiting for, their chance to get the No.1 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. The NBA Lottery will be held tonight in Disney/ABC's Studio in Time Square.
The Charlotte Bobcats hold the edge with a 25 percent chance of winning the lottery's first pick.
The Bobcats finished the 2012 season with a horrendous 7-59 record. Their .106 winning percentage was the worst in NBA history. Now, they hope to land the No.1 pick of the draft and have an opportunity to get the most sought after player in the 2012 class, 19-year old Anthony Davis.
Davis, who played for the Kentucky Wild Cats, led his team all the way to an NCAA Championship this past season. At 6' 10", 220 pounds, he is considered a dominant force on defense, averaging almost five blocks and 1.4 steals a game.
A player like Davis could help the Bobcats build a good team slowly as it will take more than one player to change the recent history of this ballclub.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the team that has finished the season with the worst record has not been awarded with the first pick of the draft since 2004. That year, the Orlando Magic chose a guy named Dwight Howard.
Behind the Bobcats, the Washington Wizards come in close with a 19.9 percent chance of stealing the first pick and the Cleveland Cavaliers come in third with a 13.8 percent. The New Orleans Hornets follow with a 13.7 percent.
The Brooklyn Nets, who went 22-44, come in seventh with a 7.5 percent chance of getting the first pick, right behind the Sacramento Kings who have a 7.6 percent chance of winning the pick.
The Nets should not hang their heads. Last year, the Cleveland Cavaliers had a 2.8 percent chance of winning and they walked away with the No.1 pick. They made Kyrie Irving the first overall pick in the 2011 draft and he also happened to be this year's Rookie of the Year.
The Draft Lottery will take place at 8 PM eastern time and will be televised on ESPN.
