The New York Knicks are off to a very tough start this season after losing at home again to the Indiana Pacers and with the team fading fast, a trade could be coming down the line and some of the top names being mentioned includes Rajon Rondo, Kenneth Faried, Derrick Williams, Larry Sanders, Hasheem Thabeet and Kendrick Perkins.
The Knicks obviously would have to give up a nice chunk for some of these players, but that doesn't mean a deal isn't impossible and while the team has already had talks with the Denver Nuggets about Faried for Iman Shumpert and the Celtics for Rondo, something else could happen down the line. Williams has been on the trading block since last season for the Wolves and the Knicks likely would want either Rondo or a big man to help replace Tyson Chandler while he is injured and if they had their choice, they would love to get Rondo, but it appears they don't have a package to do that.
Jared Zwerling from BR writes that the team should look into trading Amar'e Stoudemire to the Celtics and while that deal likely would not be for Rondo, it could help put the wheels in motion, as both sides could get rid of money they no longer want on the books. Sanders is dealing with an injury and that is an intriguing option, while Perkins has been mentioned as a name that could move, but the Thunder like him and he also has a big deal of two years and $18 million left and that is likely too much for the team to handle. The Grizzlies could think about dealing Thabeet, as Steven Adams has shown some nice potential, but that deal has not been discussed yet.
The Knicks ate clearly willing to trade Iman Shumpert, as they were working on a deal with him and Faried, but after that fell apart the team could look into other moves. The Kings reportedly want to move veterans to help speed up their rebuilding process and a move with Shumpert for someone like Chuck Hayes could be an option to help replace Chandler. Williams is an interesting option, as he was the number two pick in the draft two years ago and while he wouldn't exactly help replace Chandler, Williams would be a nice addition to the roster, but that deal doesn't look like it's going down.
The Knicks and Celtics discussed a deal for Rondo and Shumpert, but past that it might be the Gerald Wallace and Stoudemire deal that gets things started. The Celtics have said that they aren't interested in moving Rondo at this point and while the Knicks aren't looking to add more money to their books, Stoudemire has been a mess and he could be the one to move.
