Greg Jennings has no plans on missing his return to Lambeau Field. The Minnesota wide receiver has been hampered by injuries for most of the year. He is working to recover from an Achilles injury that kept him out of the Seattle Seahawks games last week. That will not be the case as Jennings stresses he is totally fine.
Jennings left the comforts of Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers to sign a five-year, $45 million contract with Minnesota. This season has certainly not been what the receiver was used to during his seven seasons with the Packers where the team won the Super Bowl in 2010. That is of no concern to Jennings. He is simply focused on getting healthy, saying he feels fresh for his return.
"Oh, I'm going," Jennings said, via the Pioneer Press. "I feel good. I feel fresh. I'm ready to go."
The added motivation could make for a big game for the receiver. In his first meeting with Green Bay while playing at home, the receiver had just one pass for three yards. That was likely not the numbers he was expecting and now battling an injury, it could spell disaster. However, the Packers are vulnerable without Rodgers and the Vikings will try and take advantage of it.
"I'm sure he'll be pretty fired-up for this ballgame," coach Leslie Frazier said. "He's excited to play, excited to get on the field after last week."
Jennings is not concerned over his Achilles injury. The wide receiver noted that he likely could have played against the Seahawks, but since the injury crept up quickly, he thought it was better to rest it a week. That will not happen against the Packers.
"You prepare all week," Jennings said. "I knew I had something going on. It kind of just jumped on me, and I was expecting for it to just jump off. And then (to) go out there and (I) can't really do what I need to do to be successful and help my team, I wasn't going to put myself in a situation that would worsen my situation.
Jennings expects to get booed when he heads back to Green Bay. He recalls Brett Favre's return and the fans booed the long-time quarterback. He understands that the same kind of reception will be given to him. Linebacker Clay Matthews also agrees that Jennings will get the terrible treatment. He notes that while the receiver did plenty of great things for the team, it will be overshadowed by the rival uniform Jennings is now wearing.
