The New Orleans Hornets won the first pick in last night's 2012 NBA Draft in New York City.
The Hornets were against the odds as they held a 13.7 chance of winning the first pick. They were fourth behind the, Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats..
It is expected for the Hornets to go after center, Anthony Davis, who spent last year in Kentucky and won a National Championship. They also possess a very useful 10th pick in the first round.
They have young stars like Eric Gordon, who when healthy can light up the scoreboard, Jarrett Jack and the veteran center Chris Kaman.
Though they will not compete right away, if played correctly, they could have a good young team with talented players to begin the 2013 campaign.
As for the Bobcats, following a disappointing season, it is another disappointing lottery result in 2012. This marks the 7th consecutive year where the team with the worst record in the NBA does not win the first pick. The Orlando Magic were fortunate in 2004 when they picked up a 19 year old Dwight Howard following a disastrous 21-61 season.
The following three draft picks will go to the Wizards who have the third pick, Cavaliers with the fourth and the Sacramento Kings, who already possess brilliant young stars, have the fifth pick.
Other noticeable teams in the 2012 draft are the Portland Blazers, who have both the 6th and 11th picks in the draft. Also, the Boston Celtics have two back-to-back picks at 21 and 22.
The 2012 NBA Draft will take place on Thursday, June 28th in Newark, NJ.
