Atlanta Falcons Rumors: Roddy White Contract Not Focus as WR Targets Retirement with Team, Julio Jones New Deal Priority in 2014

After Matt Ryan got paid in the offseason, Roddy White is next in line to get a pay increase from the Atlanta Falcons in 2014. The wide receiver started his career with the team and the Falcons are looking for him to stay in the city as long as possible. While Arthur Blank is already confirming White will agree to a nice extension, the receiver is saying a new deal is far from his mind.

White has made it clear that his intentions are to retire a member of the Atlanta Falcons. The team drafted the receiver in the first round back in 2005. He has been a leading receiver since he started and has only gotten better with the emergence of Julio Jones. White has not plans of leaving anytime soon.

"I've been here my whole career and it's been good," White said, via ESPN.com. "I've basically brought my whole family around Atlanta. And I've basically based this as a place that I want to be for the rest of my life. Anytime you get an opportunity to play out your career with one team -- especially in this day and age of football where everybody is continuously moving around -- that would be great."

2014 is a contract year for White. He will be a $6.325 hit against the salary cap, something the Falcons would like to reduce in order to sign key players in the offseason to help an unexpected rebuilding process for the team. Reports have surfaced that White and Falcons front office have already agreed to a potential number, but right now the receiver says he is not concerned with worrying about things like that.

"I don't think about those kinds of things, man," White said. "Those kinds of things work out themselves as the season goes along or as the offseason goes along. I'm a football player. All that other stuff, I don't really get into those types of things. I just let my agent handle that situation."

An offseason extension is expected to be a high priority for the Falcons considering Jones will also be set to earn a top-dollar deal from the team in a year. White would not address the specifics of the upcoming deal, simply saying that it was nice that there was a mutual feeling of want between the two sides.

Keeping White around is the best option for the Falcons. The 32-year-old is a lock for production. Outside of this season that has been hampered by injuries, White has put up six-straight 1,000 yard rushing seasons. The four-time Pro Bowler saw his impressive consecutive-start streak broken this year after getting hit hard with ankle and hamstring injuries.
