It is rivalry week in college football and the Egg Bowl features the two teams that headline the state of Mississippi. Ole Miss and Mississippi State always provide a heated game, but this year could be a lopsided matchup. Ole Miss has yet to play to their potential, but Mississippi State has quarterback issues that could cause this game to get out of hand.
Ole Miss has certainly not had the season they were hoping for. The SEC team came into the year with a top recruiting class, but are now 7-4 after last-minute losses to Texas A&M and blowout by Missouri. After getting beat a few years straight, the Rebels have a chance to regain the bragging rights of the state for the second-straight year.If Ole Miss can win against State and perform well in their bowl game, the team has a chance to enter the 2014 season ranked.
Mississippi State has some issues entering this game. Both quarterbacks are injured. Dan Prescott has a nerve injury and has been ruled out officially for the game. Tyler Russell is very beat up, but may be forced to play considering all that is left is Damian Williams. If State can win, it would send them to their fourth-straight Bowl game. It could be enough to save Dan Mullen's job considering the coach has yet to bring real success to the team.
Lately the Egg Bowl is not has high-stakes as it once was. Bo Wallace is finishing out his time with the Rebels and is looking to end on a high note. After starting the year on both the watchlist for the Maxwell Award and Davey O'Brien, his season has taken a dip, but this could be the game to secure his future.
