The 'Incredible' Hulk will play for the Blues!
Chelsea agreed terms with FC Porto for the Brazilian striker and Hulk will travel to London to agree on personal terms, according to several reports coming out of Britain. Hulk is keen to move to Chelsea, so the personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
The European champions gave their nod on a staggering $58 million fee for the striker after extensive negotiations with the Portuguese club late on Thursday. Chelsea have already agreed to buy Eden Hazard for $50 million and Marko Marin for $12 million, taking their summer spending to a massive $120 million. And the transfer window hasn't even officially opened yet!
Porto had resigned to letting Hulk go, despite having a $125 million release clause. The Portuguese club were hoping to receive a little over $60 million from Chelsea, but settled for the $58 million fee after some hard bargaining from the London club.
Roman Abramovich has made it his personal mission to re-assemble his Chelsea team for next season and another piece of the puzzle has been sealed.
A forward line which will consist of $76 million man Fernando Torres, Hazard and Hulk, whose full name is Givanildo Vieira de Souza, is sure to send a shiver down some of Premier League defenders' spines. Chelsea have also made it clear Torres will be their main man next season, despite struggling to establish himself ever since his record-breaking move from Liverpool.
Abramovich is determined to provide his favorite striker as much help as possible to get him back to his absolute best and the Russian sees these attacking signings as the perfect tonic to raising Torres' game.
While Chelsea still haven't named a manager yet, Abramovich has gone about constructing a team that can not only win but can win with style. With Marin also capable of creating that moment of magic and the ever-reliable Frank Lampard adding the experience, Abramovich hopes to bring in a new era to Chelsea.
The Russian owner is still looking to persuade Pep Guardiola to join Chelsea and the addition of Hulk is sure to tempt the Spaniard, who has previously stated his intention to take a year's sabbatical.
It is understood Abramovich is not keen on retaining Roberto Di Matteo, despite the Italian guiding Chelsea to the Champions League title, after being unimpressed by his negative tactics.
However, whoever takes the vacant Chelsea manager's position, one thing is clear -- he will have a mouth-watering attacking line up all ready to fire.
