The Texas Rangers have already pulled off one of the biggest trades of the past few years with the Prince Fielder and Ian Kinsler swapping teams and the team may not be done this winter, as they have been lined to Robinson Cano as well as trades involving pitcher David Price and catcher J.P. Arencibia.
The Rangers have money to spend after signing a new television contract and with Nelson Cruz likely leaving for greener pastures, the team has been looking into a number of moves after the Fielder deal. According to Hardball Talk, the market for David Price is about to start heating up as the winter meeting go down and the Rays are likely to deal him, as he has two more years until free agency and should get a raise in arbitration and there is no shortage of suitors looking to get him long term. Price is a former Cy Young winner and a top of the line rotation man and the Rays are looking to get a solid package out of the deal and that likely means someone better than Wil Myers, who the Rays got in the deal for James Shields from the Royals.
According to Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports, a number of teams will be in the mix for Price, including the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles dodgers, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays among others. Reports have the Mariners looking like real players in the deal and they may be willing to give up top prospect Taijuan Walker, which many feel would be a mistake (side note: so does this writer and Mariners fan. Don't do it Jack!).
Price is one of the top pitchers in the league and he had a strong finish to the season and now the Rangers could deal for him. Texas also reportedly looked into Arencibia, according to Hardball Talk, as the team had "serious discussions" with the blue Jays about him before he was non-tendered and the team now could sign him as a free agent. The 27-year-old has hit just over .210 for his career, but he has some power and according to the report he averaged nearly 30 home runs over 162 games and that could make him a solid addition for the Rangers.
