The MLB winter meetings will have plenty of rumors and fiction coming out of it, but one thing is clear, the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners are interested in trading for Matt Kemp and the dodgers OF could move this week if LA gets a deal they like and young players could be involved from both teams.
Kemp has been mentioned in rumors all offseason, especially with the Red Sox and now that the team lost Jacoby Ellsbury, they could be in play. The Mariners have been interested in Kemp since before they signed Robinson Cano and now the team is motivated to make moves on their team after getting the deal and Kemp could be an option, as could David Price. The Mariners are stocked with young talent like Nick Franklin, Dustin Ackley and Taijuan Walker and those players could be used in a deal for Kemp or Price. The M's want to make more moves to compliment Cano and adding Kemp could be a solid addition to their roster.
The Yankees made a big splash with Carlos Beltran, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brian McCann and those moves could spark the Red Sox into making a deal for Kemp. The team was fine to let Ellsbury go for that much money due to his injury history and while Kemp has been banged up the past two seasons, he is on track to be fully healthy for the start of next season and that could get more teams interested in trading for him as well. Kemp still is owed a ton of money from LA with $128 million coming to him, but that could still be an option for the Sox.
According to Hardball Talk, Kemp's agent feel that he will be traded by the Dodgers and while the OF wants to stay in LA, he said he would be surprised if he wasn't moved. Last season he dealt with a number of injuries and ended up playing in just 73 games and he had issues staying healthy and now he could be traded to another team.
The Mariners and their front office are motivated, as are the Red Sox after the moves the Yankees made and snagging Kemp would be a huge deal for either team. Kemp was an MVP candidate two years ago and they are hoping he would be back to that if traded for.
