The Philadelphia Phillies had another down season in the NL East and with a number of teams looking to retool in the division, the team has started shopping Domonic Brown and teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and the Orioles could be interested, with names like Chris Tillman and Jose Bautista floating around as possible deal options.
Hardball Talk is reporting that the Phillies are shopping their young All-Star and with Roy Halladay announcing his retirement, it could be for pitching or another young star. The team is looking to get back into the mix this season and Brown could net a nice haul, as he is coming off of a very good season with 27 home runs and 80-pmus RBIs and he hit over.270 and with Marlon Byrd getting signed, the team could afford to move Brown instead and with Jose Bautista a possible option, the two teams could make a deal.
Bautista has been banged up over the past two years, but he could give the Phillies a legitimate power hitter and they can afford his $14 million salary in the next two seasons. Bautista would be a huge snag and he has two years and a contract option left on his deal and with the team already having Cliff Lee, adding another top of the line pitcher could be an option as well. Bautista had over 150 homers the past two seasons and he has nearly 30 last season and he has been a consistent hitter and likely would rake in the national league.
Brown is a 26-year-old and now that Byrd signed on a free agent deal after hitting over 20 home runs and nearly 90 RBIs and now he is moving from the Mets to the Phillies. Brown was tied fourth in the NL in home runs and with Jeff Passan reporting that the team would like some pitching, the fact that Brown had a solid season means he could be moved at the winter meetings.
