Jerry Jones has never been shy about voicing his opinions regarding the Dallas Cowboys. As the team once again loses in the month of December, Jones is starting to place some blame. The Cowboys defense failed to get anything going against the Chicago Bears on Monday night against a backup quarterback and now the owner is pointing fingers at certain players.
While having nothing but support for his coaching staff, Jones is opting to zoom in on certain players. Naturally Jones would never say anything bad about Tony Romo, so instead veteran Ware gets the first hit. The 31-year-old has suffered his share of injuries over the past few years. He has missed three games this season and has just registered 6.0 sacks which is very low for him. Jones is a little upset over his diminished production this season.
"I don't know, as far as evaluating where he is at his talent level as it regards to age," Jones said on KRLD-FM, via the Dallas Morning News. "He's a remarkable athlete. That shouldn't be the case at all. He should actually be in the prime of his career, candidly, strength-wise, explosion-wise. That's one of the things we got to, I think, count on is him having more impact in the game as he moves away from his injury. He's feeling better and we should be able to count on better production from him."
It appears that Jones is challenging Ware to step up and be the player he signed to a lucrative contract. While Ware has looked a little slower this season, the Cowboys defense as a whole is struggling to keep up. However, Jones is not looking to blame Monte Kiffin, claiming he would rather have Kiffin as a coordinator over anyone else.
To fix what we're doing, there's nobody I'd rather have than him and Rod Marinelli, and where we are today to get this fixed over the next week, two weeks, three weeks," Jones said. "There's nobody I'd rather have than him to fix it. First of all, he knows what we're doing better than anyone, and if there are adjustments to be made, he's the right man for the job right now."
Jones notes that Kiffin takes the team struggles very personal and this year has been very hard on him. The truth is that the Cowboys are not forced to win out as the sit a game behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. They control their own destiny with three games left in the year, something Jones is not happy with but remains hopeful will work in their favor.
That's hard to take, and particularly hard to take under the circumstances. We start the weekend off thinking about really having a good situation as far as our next three ballgames are concerned, and now our backs are against the wall and we have a real challenge on Sunday," Jones said.
