The Cleveland Cavaliers have made no secret about shopping Dion Waiters this season and with the Chicago Bulls facing a possible rebuild and the loss of Luol Deng in free agency, there is a chance the two teams could make a deal, while the Philadelphia Sixers and Evan Turner also remain in the mix.
The Bulls and Cavaliers have been mentioned as teams that could be dealing before the trade deadline in the NBA and with Derrick Rose injured and likely out for the season, Chicago has to make some moves to get things going, or to rebuild, which would make Rose's fears come true. Rose reportedly has said that he doesn't want the Bulls to rebuild, but that may be out of his hands and with contract talks with Deng off, there is a chance that he could leave as a free agent after the season and the team may want to deal him to try and get something for him instead of just losing him to someone else.
According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as the likely destinations for Waiters, as Chicago wants to get someone in there that can be a lead playmaker like Rose, while the Sixers would offer Waiters a fresh start. The report from Bleacher Report says Waiters would be open to going to the Sixers because he would be the "best" player on that team and could re-establish himself after playing in Cleveland. The main reason for the trade talk with Waiters are issues with Kyrie Irving and after the two got into a reported argument last month, the Cavs have been shopping him and back then the Bulls emerged as a possible option.
Turner is a player that the Sixers have been looking to deal and a Waiters move for Turner could fit both sides and while that would leave Chicago out of things, they still have Deng and could make a deal for someone else. Some other deals are getting reports as well, including Omer Asik in a three team deal and a Rajon Rondo trade to the Kings, but so far that has been denied. The trade deadline isn't until February, but these teams could start moving now and with Turner averaging 20.3 points per game and Michael Carter-Williams playing well, the Sixers feel that they can make a move.
The Cavaliers are almost guaranteed to move Waiters and Asik is another play that likely will be moving as well after Houston signed Dwight Howard over the summer. Asik is a very good center and a number of teams would love to snag him.
