The North Carolina Tar Heels have capped off another impressive win over a ranked opponent. The team has already earned victories over Louisville, Michigan and Kentucky, all ranked at the time the two teams played. The ACC team is looking to keep the streak alive as they face an unknown threat in Texas.
Texas is 9-1, but unproven against any real competition. The team has not played a ranked opponent yet but has plenty of chances coming up against North Carolina on Wednesday and then Michigan St. on Saturday. While the Longhorns have an impressive record, a win over one of those two teams could do a lot for them.
North Carolina is feeling very confident after they defeated then No. 11 Kentucky 82-77. They did so without PJ Hairston and Leslie McDonald who were both out due to eligibility concerns. In their absence, Marcus Paige picked up the scoring slack and has taken advantage of it. He put up a game-high 23 points against Kentucky while averaging 19.2 a game. Last year as a freshman he only averaged 8.2 points per game. James Michael McAdoo and Brice Johnson are also helping, putting up at least 13 points a game.
Texas comes in as a real threat. The Longhorns are on a five-game win streak since they lost to BYU back in November. Their defense has been the storyline after they held teams like Texas State to just 29.7 percent shooting. They look every bit balanced as five players put up double figures in that game. Things likely will not go as smooth against the Tar Heels, but Texas will put up a fight.
North Carolina has a defense of their own, allowing opponents to shoot just 37.9 percent overall. Texas has won their last four of five meetings against North Carolina, the most recent coming in December of last year.
