If it were up to Cristiano Ronaldo, he would never play for another club other than Real Madrid.
The Portugal international reaffirmed his desire to stay with Madrid for the rest of his career. This comes after a May interview with Sky Sports News in which he was quoted as saying, "I feel happy here but, in one year or two, you never know." Now comes word that he could sign a new contract extension to stay with the club until 2018.
"About the renovation of my contract, if it was up to me then I would stay at Real Madrid for the rest of my career, but it doesn't all depend on me," Ronaldo said. "I am not just saying this, I am sincere, I want to finish my career here. I would sign for 10 years today if I could, but this is something that also depends on other people."
Ronaldo enjoyed record-breaking success last season as he led Real Madrid to the La Liga title, dethroning Barcelona, as well as a spot in the semifinals of the Champions League. Ronaldo scored 60 goals in 55 games this season with Madrid, 46 of which came in league play. He became the first player to score 40 goals in two seasons in La Liga history.
Ronaldo looks at his success as reimbursement to the club for their investment in him. Real Madrid paid a record transfer fee of £80million to Manchester United to secure the services of Ronaldo. In addition, Ronaldo, 27, is one of the highest paid players on the world.
"At times I think about how I am still the most expensive singing in the history of football and I always try to justify on the pitch the huge gamble the club took on me," Ronaldo said.
Real Madrid just renewed the contract of Portugal native and head coach Jose Mourinho, much to the delight of their world-class striker. "I am happy Mourinho is staying. A club like Real Madrid has to have a top coach like Mourinho. The manager has to stay here, it seems clear to me that Real Madrid without Mourinho would win less titles than with him on the bench."
