The Oakland Raiders have been going through another tough season and they may finish 4-12 again in 2013 and that could mean the end of Dennis Allen's run at head coach and while the team may face rumors of Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden, there is some positive news at the end of the year, as former cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has signed with the team and plans on retiring as a Raider.
Asomugha was originally drafted by the team back in 2003 and established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in football and now, according to Pro Football Talk, the team has signed him to a short contract so that he can officially retire with the franchise that drafted him. The report says that the team will hold an event and will announce the news in a press conference and that players like Charles Woodson and former Raiders defensive backs Willie Brown and Lester Hayes will be in attendance when he hangs up his cleats.
Asomugha has fallen off in the past couple years after signing what was one of the biggest contracts for a player at his position and now his career has come full circle, as he is back with the Raiders. Asomugha became one of the top corners in the league with the Raiders and more often than not, teams did not throw his way at all, which is one reason why he finished his career with only 15 picks, but that showed how skilled he was for many years. Asomugha signed a big contract with the Raiders and then was allowed to be a free agent due to a stipulation in that deal and he then signed a huge contract with the Eagles that was part of the "Dream team" offseason that turned terrible and within two years he was gone.
Asomugha ended up back in the Bay Area after leaving the Eagles and signed with the 49ers, but that did not last long before he was released and he now retries after making it to three Pro Bowls and being names an All Pro twice. Asomugha had over 10 interceptions during his time with the Raiders and according to ESPN.com, the 32 year old finished his career with 80 passes defensed and his retirement comes after playing in just three games with the Niners.
The deal he signed in Philly was for five years and $60 million and now he will retire as a member of the Raiders. Asomugha comes to the Raiders as they are 4-11 and they are on the verge of a second straight 4-12 finish in the AFC West and that could mean it's time for Mark Davis to make another head coaching move with Dennis Allen and if he does, names like Lovie Smith, Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden surely will get mentioned.
