Tony Romo Injury Rumors: Dallas Cowboys QB Out Week 17 After Back Surgery, Kyle Orton To Start Against Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will be out for Week 17 and the rest of the postseason if the team makes it after having back surgery and now he is ruled out for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East title and that means Kyle Orton is poised to start in his place.

The injury to Romo may save Jason Garrett and his Cowboys staff their jobs after the season, as reports said that Jerry Jones would clean house if the Cowboys miss out on the NFC east title for the third straight season in Week 17, but the Romo injury may give the staff a reprieve, as he is one of their best players and will not be on the field. According to ESPN.com, Romo had back surgery and will be placed on the IR and that means he is out for the final game against the Eagles, which has the Cowboys coming in at 8-7 and the Eagles at 9-6 and a win by either team gives them the division.

The Cowboys signed Jon Kitna to be the backup for the game after he played for the team for a number of years and that means Orton will get the start with Romo out. The team has played without Romo in the past and the QB has played through pain before, but this time the injury was too severe for that. Orton now will be the man under center as the team tries to make the playoffs and this comes after the Cwboys lost two years ago to the Giants and last season to the Washington Redskins for the NFC East division title.

"We anticipate this surgery to solve the issue with his back," Jason Garrett said, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
