The New York Mets are heading into 2014 with some solid expectations after signing Curtis Granderson and Bartolo Colon to contracts and now they could be on the way to signing someone else, as shortstop Stephen drew remains a target and that means the team still could trade Ruben Tejada if they sign him.
According to Hardball Talk, Drew and the Mets "remain in contact" and the team could change their minds and sign him after they initially balked at his money amount. The team is still looking to keep costs down despite signing Granderson and Colon and the Mets need an upgrade at shortstop, as they are not content with Tejada, who is solid with potential but has not come on yet.
Last season Drew showed some power and hit .253 with 13 home runs and 67 RBIs while playing in over 120 games and he was integral to the World Series as well. The article compares the Mets looking at Drew the way they did Michael Bourn last season, as they made a hard run as time went on before he signed with the Indians. Last season Tejada hit just .202, but he is also very young at 24 years old and likely will be the starting shortstop unless the Mets make a move.
