Both South Carolina and Wisconsin are likely disappointed to be playing in the Capital One Bow. Both schools had plenty of preseason hype and BCS bowl aspirations that failed to come true after a few crucial conference losses. Both teams finished the regular season ranked and will now get a chance to battle it out for the first time on New Year's Day.
Wisconsin and South Carolina have plenty of bowl history to their names. Wisconsin is coming off of three-straight Rose Bowl losses while the Gamecocks are trying to notch their third-straight win. Last year they dominated another Big Ten opponent Michigan in the Outback Bowl.
Quarterback Connor Shaw will be playing his final game for the Gamecocks. The senior produced a strong season, not turning the ball over in the final four games of the year. He tossed 21 touchdowns and just one interception while also being the team's second-leading rusher with 511 yards. He will be looking to finish out his tenure in South Carolina on a high note before trying his luck in the NFL Draft.
This will also likely be defensive end Jadeveon Clowney's final game as well as the he is expected to forgo his senior season and declare for the draft. He earned his hype during the Outback Bowl last season, but injuries left him with just three sacks this year.
He will go up against a deadly Wisconsin rushing attack as the Gamecocks' third-ranked defense in the SEC will be tested. Senior James White racked up 1,337 yards this year and a team-high 12 touchdowns. His teammate Melvin Gordon also put up 1,466 yards, averaging 8.1 yards per carry.
Wisconsin has not won a bowl game since the 2009 Champs Sports Bowl against Miami. Afer three-straight Rose Bowl disappointments, they face the SEC powerhouse South Carolina with a chance to break their losing streak. The Capital One Bowl is a slightly smaller stage than what both teams were hoping for after plenty of preseason hype, but both the Badgers and Gamecocks would like one last win.
