Will he or won't he? That is the main question surrounding quarterback Johnny Manziel. After two impressive seasons with Texas A&M, the former Heisman winner is expected to depart early for the NFL. After a win over Duke in the Chick-fil-A bowl, Manziel would not commit on what his future will look like.
Manziel once again dazzled football fans as he lead the comeback win for the Aggies on New Year's Eve. In what is likely his final college game, he tossed for 382 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for another 73 yards and a score. Nothing that he was simply in the zone, he helped produce the highest scoring game in the bowl's history.
Now, that the college season has wrapped up, Manziel must consider whether or not to forgo his NCAA eligibility and enter the 2014 NFL Draft. Following the win, the quarterback would not address the situation.
"I can't even talk about anything other than this game," Manziel said, via ESPN.com. "This was unreal...I haven't made the decision yet. I'm in the moment right now."
ESPN earlier reported that Manziel would in fact be leaving for the NFL as will wide receiver Mike Evans. If the quarterback does come out, he could easily be the No. 1 overall draft pick to the Houston Texans who have already secured the pick. Highly considered as the best dual-threat quarterback in the game, Manziel has the stats to make him the top pick.
Head coach Kevin Sumlin is also not diving into what Manziel's future holds. He is however telling the media to stop mentioning his name as a possible candidate for open coaching positions. Sumlin has already walked away from an offer to be USC's next coach and is instead opting to honor the new six-year, $30 million contract extension he signed at the end of November. Sources tell ESPN.com that any rumor of Sumlin making the jump to the NFL is simply not true.
CBSSports.com reported that several NFL scouts were on hand to watch Manziel's performance at the Georgia Dome. There is plenty of interest in him as the next franchise quarterback is he decides to make the leap. Manziel has accomplished all that he likely can with Texas A&M and a jump to the pros is inevitable.
