All eyes are on Percy Harvin in the next two weeks. The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver has returned to practice after many believed he would be headed back onto injured reserve as his hip injury continues to be a bother. However, Harvin is trying to make a return for the playoffs and quarterback Russell Wilson is confident he makes a strong return in the upcoming playoff rounds.
Harvin played just one game with the Seahawks in the regular season. Seattle gave up a first-, third-, and seventh-round draft pick in order to get Harvin from the Minnesota Vikings. Immediately after the trade the wide receiver underwent hip surgery that forced him out for all but one game. The team was certainly expecting a little more return on investment than that, but if Harvin can make a difference in the playoffs and get the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, all will be forgiven.
"He has worked really hard to get back but has not been able to make it over the hump. He's going to need the offseason to really get back to full strength. We wil have an extraordinary football player ready to go net year. We will take a look this week and see where we are and then know more," head coach Pete Carroll said, via ESPN.com.
While Carroll sounded reserved in just what Harvin's role in the playoffs will be, Wilson was heavily optimistic. After working with him all week, the quarterback feels very confident that Harvin will elevate the offense through a playoff run.
"He's ready to go I think, but we'll see. You've got to listen to the trainers and Coach Carroll and how he's feeling and that just adds another element to our game," Wilson said, via ProFootballTalk.com. "If we can get Percy Harvin, he's explosive as can be, he has a great knack for the game, he's very physical, loves to just make big time plays. So if we can get him out there, that will be great if that's the case."
In Harvin's one game with the Seahawks, he caught one pass for 17 yards and returned a kickoff for 58 yards. He has missed all of OTAs and training camp. This is just the second week of practice he has participated in since May. The Seahawks have functioned well without him, but there is no denying what Harvin could bring to the table.
