The fantasy football season and the NFL regular season are over and with the playoffs starting next week, it's just the right time to look at next year for the best fantasy players to keep for ESPN, Yahoo and CBS keeper leagues and two players that should be at the top of the list are Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon.
McCoy and Gordon were two of the best players in all of fantasy football this season and the stars finished as the leaders in yards for their respective positions. Gordon did it with a subpar group of players at quarterback, making his season even more impressive, while McCoy continued to show why he is one of the most versatile backs in the league and he now has won his first rushing title. McCoy finished the season with 1,607 tards and he set a new franchise record for the team and he finished the season with a 131 yard performance against the Dallas Cowboys in the game that won the NFC East for the Eagles.
McCoy benefitted greatly from the play of quarterback Nick Foles, who started the season with 19 touchdowns and zero interceptions and he ended up with nearly 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns and that helped McCoy finish with a career high in yards and he also had nine touchdowns to go along with 52 catches for 539 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles hadn't had a rushing champion since 1949 and the team ended the season first in the league in rushing yards per game.
Gordon had a superb season in 2013 and while he may have some rough quarterback play again next season, he led the league in yards with 1,646 yards and he made 87 catches this season on 159 targets and an impressive 18.9 yards per catch and making things even more impressive is the fact that he played in only 14 games. Gordon is a prime keeper for next season.
The Philadelphia Eagles are into the playoffs under head coach Chip Kelly in his first year with the team and the Eagles got into the postseason as NFC East division champions after defeating the Dallas Cowboys on the road and this is the third time that the Cowboys have lost in the last game of the season in Week 17 with the division on the line and here is a look back on the game from Reuters.com and the Cowboys had Kyle Orton playing in the game for Tony Romo after he suffered a back injury that required surgery.
Eagles intercepted a pass from Kyle Orton in the final minutes to claim the NFC East division title with a nail-biting 24-22 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
With the conference's final playoff spot on the line in a winner-take-all matchup, Dallas (8-8) got the ball with just under two minutes and had a chance to win it but Orton's pass was picked off by Brandon Boykin to end their season. Orton, who was filling in for the injured Tony Romo and for his first start since 2011, came up short in familiar Cowboys' fashion.
Dallas have now lost three consecutive season finales with the post-season on the line.
Philadelphia's (10-6) win earns them a wild card playoff matchup that they will host against the New Orleans Saints (11-5) on Saturday.
The Eagles were led by 24-year-old quarterback Nick Foles, who capped a stellar regular season by throwing for 263 yards and two touchdowns.
Foles, who began the year as the backup QB before emerging as a standout after starter Michael Vick was injured, completed 17 of 26 passes.
Alongside him and first-year coach Chip Kelly, Philadelphia is heading to the playoffs for the first time since 2010. In the fourth quarter, Foles led Philadelphia on a crucial drive and found Bryce Brown for a six-yard touchdown that put the visitors ahead 24-16.
Orton responded with a 32-yard TD strike to Dez Bryant, but the two could not connect for a two-point conversion that would have tied the game. The Dallas defense forced Philadelphia to punt and set up their last possession. Orton finished the day with 358 yards passing but had two interceptions. LeSean McCoy ran for 131 yards and also caught a three-yard score for the Eagles.
Philadelphia scored the game's first 10 points and led 17-10 at halftime.
Dan Bailey kicked a pair of field goals in the third quarter, and finished with three, to pull the Cowboys within a point heading into the fourth.
