Things continue to get worse regarding the 2013-14 season for the Chicago Bulls. The team has just completed a trade sending forward Luol Deng to the Cleveland Cavaliers in return for draft picks and saved money. If fans were not using the word "tank" then, they could be now. NBA sources report the Bulls might not be done making moves before the NBA trade deadline.
Sam Amick of USA Today reports Chicago is interested in trading point guard Kirk Hinrich before the February deadline. The move is somewhat surprising as Hinrich has been heavily relied upon since the injury to Derrick Rose. However, his expiring contract makes him an easy target. Hinrich is owed $4 million and is a cheap rental for a contending team. The point guard is shooting just 34 percent overall and 28.6 percent from the 3-point line as injuries have taken their toll.
The Bulls season now might be grim, but the future could be bright. USA Today confirms the Bulls are expected to use their amnesty clause on Carlos Boozer in the offseason who would be a $16 million cap hit in 2014. If they take Boozer and Hinrich off the books, the team has enough to sign another player to a max contract. Hello, Carmelo Anthony.
The Bulls were reportedly shopping Hinrich well before the Deng trade went down. However, talks have increased since the move. Teams believe the Bulls are looking to clear house in preparation for the free agency spree coming up in the offseason.
The Warriors are currently looking for replacements for Jarrett Jack and Toney Douglas. Hinrich fits as far as cost is concern, but his downward stats do not make him the best player to fit the team mold. The Curry/Douglas combo has worked well in the regular season, but Golden State will need more come playoff time.
If Golden State fails to get Hinrich, they could still get Nuggets' veteran Andre Miller. The team is actively trying to shop Miller after a blow up between he and head coach Brian Shaw. Plenty of teams have shown interest and the Warriors are considered a front-runner to land him. The Sacramento Kings are also another option for Miller.
