The Baseball Hall of Fame vote results are in and Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas are in, while Craig Biggio and Jack Morris were left out and now three living players will have made it in as the 2014 HOF Class elected to Cooperstown and this comes after months of speculation and predictions on the voting and after no one was elected to the Hall last year and now it will add multiple players as they will get enshrined in the summer.
Four players have not been elected in many years and heading into the day, it looks like the picks will be Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Craig Biggio, Frank Thomas and Jack Morris with three, four or five of those players getting in. Maddux is looking like he will be close to getting the all-time vote of over 98 percent, which would beat Tom Seaver, but either way, Maddux coming into the day is a lock and the players who have had the most percentage is Seaver and Nolan Ryan. It would be awesome if the BBWAA elects five players, since all five mentioned have a solid argument to get in, but they are an old group full of annoying voters who give terrible rationales for not voting for players, meaning it will likely be just three players and maybe four, but it is very, very unlikely that they will do five because....well, these dues don't have any real rationale for not doing things, but since it hasn't been done in years....they won't do it for years. Oh yeah, good logic.
The last time three players was in 1999 and the last time it was five was back in 1936 with Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson as well as Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner and Christy Mathewson. Morris is a deserving candidate and this will be his final year on the ballot and there will be some controversy if he gets close. There is a ton to be learned from the voting this year with Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens on the ballot, as their percentage will tell a lot about who will have the chance to make it into the Hall of Fame and a number of players could also fall off the ballot if they don't get enough votes.
Last year's results was a good look at what could have happened this year and Biggio led the voting with 68 percent and Jack Morris was second with 67 percent and both could get in and Morris is there for his final year in his 15th on the ballot. Frank Thomas looks like he will be getting in with Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine and Jeff Bagwell and Mike Piazza are right there with just under 60 percent. Tim Raines and Lee Smith were next with Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds were next and now it's interesting to see where Bagwell and Piazza end up and they both need to move up and that would set them up for getting in the next couple years.
