The St. Louis Rams are in the number two spot in the NFL draft for the second time in three years and they are in great position to add an impact player with their pick if they decide to keep it and not trade it, as players like Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Sammy Watkins, Jadeveon Clowney, Jake Matthews and Blake Bortles will be available.
The team is planning on going ahead with Sam Bradford and while he was developing in his fourth season, he suffered a season ending knee injury and the Rams could bring in another quarterback as insurance for next year. Some mock drafts have the team picking Clowney and that would be a very solid pick for a defense that showed improvement this season. The Rams have a strong pass rush with Robert Quinn and Chris Long and adding someone like Clowney would give the team one of the nest defensive fronts in the NFL.
Many predicted Clowney would be the number one overall pick after his performance last season, but after dealing with some injuries and a perception of not trying this year, he could slip and that would be a huge boost for the Rams. The team also is in position to trade down and get more picks, as the Rams also have the 13th pick in the first round and that could give the Rams a number of options if they don't feel that any of the top players are worth a number two pick this season.
It's likely that Bridgewater will be gone, but the team could select Manziel or Bortles with the pick if they feel they want to start over with a new quarterback and while that would be a dramatic pick by Jeff Fisher, he has shown that he isn't afraid to take a risk, which he has done with Janoris Jenkins and Alec Ogletree. Manziel declared for the draft officially as expected and he could run wild on the turf in St. Louis and he leaves college and Texas A&M as one of the most productive quarterbacks in SEC history and he was a Heisman finalist this season with over 4,000 yards passing and 37 TDs.
