The Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets are playing an anticipated game on Friday night at the Barclays Center and it comes after LeBron James and company play against the NY Knicks on Thursday night and the two teams are wearing nickname jerseys for the matchup and all the players picked out some expected and unexpected names, with Ray Allen of course sticking with his classic Jesus Shuttlesworth from the film "He Got Game".
The marketing gimmick by the NBA is a very cool one and the players have taken it up with enthusiasm and some of the names are more obvious and boring than others, but to each his own. LeBron is sticking with his classic King James name, while Allen has by far the best nickname on his jersey of anyone and if anyone thinks otherwise...well. Dwyane Wade went with the simple D Wade, while Chris Anderson took his Birdman nickname to his jersey.
Andrei Kirilenko from the Nets likely wanted to use AK-47, but that is not the message the team and the NBA wants to send, while Deron Williams took his D Will nickname. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have names attached to them already and stuck with those, including The Big Ticket for Garnett and Truth for Pierce. The matchup is coming from the Barclays Center on ESPN on Friday and the game on Thursday between the Knicks and Heat will be on TNT.
