Olympics: Usain Bolt Warms Up With Victory Over Asafa Powell

Usain Bolt was tested by compatriot Asafa Powell, but still won the 100 metres in the Diamond League meeting at Oslo in a time of 9.79 seconds.

Powell had the much better start and looked like winning the race for about 80 meters, but Bolt had the better final surge to edge out his Jamaican compatriot for the win. Powell finished in his season's best time of 9.85 seconds.

"The blocks have changed from last season," the world record holder said. "For me, when I came on the blocks, the reaction was good but the execution, because I was less comfortable, from the blocks was not that good.

"I'm not very happy with my new blocks. I think I need to go back to the old blocks.

"When I get everything all right, I can really relax and be myself. Now there are a few things I need to work on, so in trying to get those things first and then I can get back to be myself."

Bolt was his usual crowd-pleasing best, crashing into a flower girl at the end of the race, but showing good footwork to keep both of them on their feet.

Powell said he was happy with his performance, which saw Bolt pushed to the limit. "It was a season best, which is what I need right now, to keep improving," the Jamaican told reporters.

"This is not the Olympics and I wasn't really training for this event. This means that it (the Olympics) is going to be awesome."

Lerone Clarke completed a Jamaican sweep of the podium, finishing third in 10.10 seconds.

World champion Sally Pearson won the women's 100 metre hurdles in a season-best 12.49 seconds. American Kristi Castlin took second in 12.56 seconds while Great Britain's Tiffani Porter was third in 12.70.

In the women's high jump Chaunte Howard of the US took gold.
